Play class-based games and you’ll know that it’s tough to convince people to play certain roles — there are only so many people who’d rather be the support character than the front line hero. Valve’s solution for Dota 2? Give players an incentive to fill those roles. Its latest update to the game adds a Fast Queue option that bumps Ranked players to the front of the line when they’re willing to play with all roles selected. It works on a credit system that provides more Fast Queue games the more you’re willing to play any role. You get four games on top of the one you’re playing each time you play solo. Two-player parties earn two games each, while three-player teams earn a game each.
Valve releases massive matchmaking update and bans Smurfs, Boosters and Scripters
The new Ranked season for Dota 2 is here, bringing with it updates to role symmetry in Ranked queues and the core and support ranks, as well as a ban wave for smurf accounts and players with low behavior scores. One of the biggest changes in this update tweaks the existing matchmaking system introduced early last month , putting a bigger emphasis on role symmetry across the two teams in a match instead of prioritizing rank spread and other criteria.
An example of this is when the mid player for one team has the highest rank on their team, and the mid player on the other team has the lowest rank. Alongside the changes to matchmaking, the update also comes with a wave of bans for players that have exceptionally low behavior scores, were found to have violated the Steam Service Agreement by purchasing an account to boost their rank, and those who were caught using exploits in matches. Valve will be issuing weekly ban waves targeting these kinds of players without notice, with the associated phone numbers of banned accounts also being permanently blacklisted to prevent them from accessing ranked matchmaking.
The update also aims to reduce the usage of smurfing players using a different account, often with a much lower rank than their main account.

A new ranked season is here in Dota 2 and the game is receiving a significant shakeup as a result. In a lengthy post on the official Dota 2 blog , Valve detailed the changes made to ranked matchmaking this season. The changes are numerous, ranging from how MMR is calculated to a more aggressive approach to punishing players. Many of the changes revolve around role queuing in ranked matches and optimizing the experience of players within that framework.
For example, a MMR difference between mid-lane players would have a much more significant impact on the outcome of a game than a MMR difference between hard supports.

Read our post and get the inside scoop on the Dota 2 ranking system. Learn about ranked matchmaking and matchmaking rating MMR. Like any other competitive online multiplayer title these days, Dota 2 has its very own ranking system integrated into its own matchmaking queue. Ranked matches in Dota 2 put players into specified competitive tiers, in the form of leagues with associated medals. Winning games increases the count, and hitting percent causes the counter to roll over and award the player with an additional level.
The system will then place them in the next tier, with a one-star medal. In order to get their ranks, players must complete a string of ten ranked matchmaking games, which are dedicated for calibrating their rating. After the calibration matches are completed, players are assigned to leagues based on their wins and losses throughout the ten games. Prior to the June update, calibration matches took individual performances in games into account when placing players into leagues.
